How to Create Strong Family Ties: Understanding How to Maintain Family Bies

Creating strong family ties is not always easy, but it is vital, particularly in the current era where families can and do, drift apart for many different reasons. It takes time and effort on everyone’s part to restore familial ties and relationships once they are broken.

Even a couple or a small family can break up because of discord as a dysfunctional family unit. Many families split up because of unexpected circumstances like war, disasters or financial hardship.

Independent family members often turn away from their own families, seeking successful lives of their own. Some reach outwards and in turn, find a global family, which in itself can be a good thing, unless it divides their own family unit further.

The Health Promotion Board, in an article entitled “Building Strong Family Ties” relates this to physical and mental health suggesting,

“A safe and happy environment at home is the key to both good physical and mental health. In today's busy society, it is important to remember that the family is your main pillar of support and love. Celebrating successes or special occasions with family members bring joy and meaning to your life. Strong family life also offers stability during periods of stress and life transitions.”

Creating and maintaining strong family ties can help to keep families together regardless of their unique, unusual or different circumstances.

Consider the following tips for creating strong family ties:

Maintain strong leadership:

Strong leadership by one family member or several family members can demonstrate the love of one another in a celebration of life, while conveying a message of freedom for all. Many families have more than one dominant leader, passing on sound leadership principles that continue from one generation to another. Ideally, the merit of family ties, instilled within the heart and mind of each family member, guarantees that family ties will never be broken.

A potent vision for the future:

A family with a consistent and progressive, pro-active and positive vision as a family unit with respect to the future is more likely to continue in a positive, constructive direction, indefinitely. The power of a family often lies in its unity and expressions thereof, with respect to the future.

Establishing effective communication:

Nowadays, regardless of time or distance, families can still maintain their strong family ties via the Internet, particularly when they take a consistent stand that family is always family and has a priority. Remember that families come in many different sizes and forms. Each is unique in itself.

Creating strong family ties begins on an individual level, as each family member assumes his or her responsibility in a family. No family situation is perfect, but each person has ownership of his or her own family ties. These ties should never be broken. If for some reason, these ties are broken, seeking to restore family relationships, as soon as possible, is important to every family member.
